He sat away from the others, watching. They fed happily as a group, and he could have easily run them off if he wanted to. But he had eaten already, and been washed clean by the rain. He was content to be alone in his little hollow by the trees. He alternated between sleep and alert, waking to look past us - through us really - for oncoming threats. He was fierce, proud, and didn’t have a need for anyone or anything. A lion on his own.
